Dear Holly,

It is a pleasure to hear from a descendant of Peter Papineau. I have done a considerable amount of research on this branch in the attempt to establish a connection with my Adelia (Papineau) Church.

During my last visit to the State File in Middlesex, Vt., I discovered Peter's marriage to Emma Soulier. They were married in East Montpelier, 10 July 1898. Peter's parents are listed as Joseph Papineau and Delia (no maiden name). The surname evolution is merely a classic example of the "dit" surname.

Recently, I telephoned your relative, Sister Mabel Irene Papineau. Her hypothesis is that the Papineau clan originated in Trois-Rivieres (Three-Rivers), Quebec; i.e., prior to their removal to New York.

I am positive that we are connected (albeit many generations back!). I am continuing in my efforts to establish the exact relationship and will most certainly keep you posted! It would seem rather coincidental that my Adelia (Papineau) Church and your Peter Papineau both resided in the small towm of Moretown, Vermont, during the early 1900's!

All the best,

Ryan D. Wood
