Ryan, well I guess we're researching the same family? I do have the Quebec connections. If you look at the church record of their marriage it shows that his parents are Joseph De Repentigny and Melina Routier (Gautier). It seems they used DeRepentigny in the church records and Papineau in everyday life. Thanks to a very nice guy in Quebec, I have several generations back of Peter's line. He believes that they didn't use the name Papineau in Quebec, but were rather from the Le Gardeur family and wrote it Le Gardeur de Repentigny. Yes, it does make things difficult when you don't know what to look for. I'm glad I saved my husband's French Canadian ancestors for last. It is way too confusing. I have lots more info.
