OTTLEY PAPINEAU RIVERSIDE CA.RE-POSTING:
Posted by: Helen Wood (ID *****0759) Date: October 19, 2008 at 16:35:20

I am trying to verify the immigration dates for Ottley Papineau, DOB 1846, St Olave st London,England.Parents were John and Elizabeth (Richardson)Papineau.

Ottley lived in Australia until at least 1873-his new wife had a daughter in that year.

According to information supplied to San Bernardino Chronicle He came to California in 1874,and has parents called Elizabeth and John. However,he is listed as the father of Alfred Papineau, born in Hay, NSW Australia, in 1877.

He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery,Riverside.
He was listed in the 1880 U.S. census, and in 1910, but I could not find evidence of residence in the U.S.previous to this, other than the newspaper article, which was probably relying on his own story.

In order to ascertain that the American Ottley is in fact one and the same as the Aussie one, I need official documentation rather than his own story.

1.Immigration year verified by ships lists (there are none that I can find in non-subscribed lists, either from Australia,or entering the US.)I did find an Elizabeth Papineau entering San fransisco late in the century at the same age as Ottley's mother would have been.(93 yrs)

2.And anything that can tell me the parent's names of the American Ottley who was married to Mary Ann Hunt in the U.S.in 1881.(Mary Ann was born in Australia in 1845)

Your help would be so much appreciated.Thank you to all thos who helped me previously regarding this person, it was invaluable!
Helen.AKA Bethany
