Don't know if I am referring to the same Thomas in your posting but I have the one who was married to Mary Lippincott. I do not know if he was actually a Tory but think he was sympathetic to them.He was arrested, it is not stated where, and taken as a prisoner to Philadelphia. On April 9, 1777 was brought, with another prisoner, before the NJ Council of Safety where he took the "Oath of Abjuration and Allegiance" and was discharged.Several Parent's including, who we believe, were his brother and nephews were "not much into the war". Daniel deserted, John was delinquent, James, John, & Samuel were signers of the Association for Opposing the Return of Tories. If this is the Thomas we believe it is he was not a young man.He would have been at least 45 years old when he was discharged.Did not realize that the Lippincott's were Tories but if they were it may have been why these Parent's were sympathetic since Thomas was married to Mary Lipincott. The only thing that confuses me is, according to your message, Thomas was still a prisoner in August 1778.According to my record he was discharged in 1777.Unless he was rearrested or not the Thomas married to Mary Lippincott. However, we have found no other Thomas in NJ at that time.
