Thank you for bringing this to my attention. This just goes to show that you can't even trust what obituaries have to say. I based the date of her death on the fact that she was never mentioned in the following:
OBITUARY:From the Sullivan Co., MO, newspaper. (Some editing) "Peter Parkey died at the residence of his son, James, six miles east of town, Friday, November 16, 1888 of Typhoid Malaria, after an illness of about three weeks.Aged 73 years, Mr. Parkey was one of the oldest settlers of the county, having come here in the summer of 1854, settling on a tract of land near where he died.
In the Fall of 1877, Mr. Parkey, in the company of his three sons, John, Larkin and Peter, went to Texas where he remained until this Fall. The old man resolved to return to Sullivan County in order that he might see some of his old friends were he called upon to be down in death .He was just spared long enough to reach his old home when he was stricken.Uncle Peter was a man well known to many of our readers as an honest, upright, straight-forward citizen. He leaves an aged companion, four sons and one daughter to mourn his loss."
I didn't catch the significance of the "aged companion". Since she wasn't mentioned as having accompanied Peter to Texas in 1877, I assumed she must have died prior to that. Lydia's death date should be listed as after 1888.
