In reply to Paul Brant's request for more on Palmyra Parkins family:
My g-g-grandfather was Palmyra's brother. Their father was Andrew and his father was James Parkins and they all lived in the general area of Lewisburg. From records that came to me in an old Parkins bible I have the birthdate of 21 April 1782 for Andrew. In his youth he left Greenbrier for Ohio and at Chillicothe he married Elizabeth Poore on 25 May 1807. She was born 18 June 1779 in North Carolina. These dates don't agree with those given in HARDISTY'S ENCYCLOPEDIA: The West Virginia Heritage but I believe mine are correct.
Andrew and Elizabeth had three children born in Chillicothe, OH: Maria V(irgini)a 1 Oct 1808, Palmyra 13 Oct 1810, and Salvadore 8 Aug 1812.
The family moved back to Greenbriar about 1814. Maria married Elchana Skeen, a widower with several children, and they had two children together: James Andrew 31 May 1845 and Palmyra -elin 15 (Oct?) 1851. This record has faded a great deal and I can't make it all out. Palmyra married Harrison Fleshman, as you know. Salvadore married Margaret S. "Peggy" Williams 17 Feb 1835 and they had six children.
I really don't know anything about Andrew except that census says he was a labourer. They were counted in the Greenbrier census in 1850 and some time after that they apparently went to Hamilton Co., IN where, by that time, their son and at least one nephew were living. HARDESTY'S tells us that Andrew died there 10 May 1856 and Elizabeth died there 23 March 1857. I have no record of their deaths and have not been able to locate their graves.
Andrew is mentioned in the will of his father James which you can probably find in the court house at Lewisburg and which has been entered on to the internet by Linda Pointer. Go to USGENWEB - West Virginia - Greenbrier Co. and look for the will of James Parkins.
I don't know about Betsy Parkins; she may come from a collateral line. I have written a biographical sketch covering my family line starting with Andrew which you may or may not care to read. If you would like a copy of it I would be glad to send it to you by snail-mail. Otherwise, if you have more questions that I might be able to answer here just let me know.
