Hi Carol:
I have been researching my paternal Parliament ancestors for nearly two years. Today I came across your posting and am happy to inform you that Henry Parliament was my great grandfathers brother. My great grandfather being Joseph Parliament from Hardyston NJ who married Nancy Hammel (not Hamilton as posted by Timothy Eakins), I have pics of their headstones in Sparta Cemetery Sparta NJ.
I never knew John (the Civil War Vet) had children as posted by Susan Youkim in Sept '01. I have his pension papers that show Mary Murphy as his wife without issues (children). Perhaps he married again as these children were born after the war and were mothered by this Jane C person.
Interesting is this boarder of 10 yrs old living with Maggie Parliament Stark in the 1900 census. My great grandfather came to Yonkers in 1890 the same year his wife died in NJ. And the same year Mary Murphy died! We need to figure out who this Lucy is!!!
My grandfather
David predeceased his father Joseph - Henry's brother - in 1914. He was an officer in the first organized police department in Yonkers and had an Inspectors Funeral. Because my grandfather David married an Irish Catholic and converted all their children including my father and grandchildren and great grand children are Roman Catholics.
I can provide you with all the lines from Joseph - Henry's brother - if you would like.
I know Henry and Josephs parents were David and Elizabeth Fenner Parliament from or married in NYS. David died in his 40's in a mining accident in NJ. He was a carter.
Like you this information I have on James parentage is James Parliament and Amie (Amy). The Dutch Reformed Church records in Rockland Cnty NY (formerly Orange Cnty at the time he lived) show this James donating lathes of wood for its construction.
FYI the original Parliaments arrived here with the largest migration to the colonies in 1709 with the bname Berleman. Johannes Berleman and his wife and children arrived here in West Camp escaping the Palinate in what is now the present day Germany to assist the Queens (england) colonizing of the colonies here. The B/P are interchangeable in the Dutch language and thus the varied spellings. I have lots of info but need to hook up back from James and Amiee.
