#008486/01, (Hastings Co.), James MOUNTNEY, 65, farmer, Amherst Island, Thurlow, W, Anglican, Albert MOUNTNEY & Nancy GIBBS, Susan GIFFORD, 43, Madoc, Thurlow, W, Methodist, James PARKS & Matilda COLE, Jacob Henry
STRINGER of Elziver & Eleanor GIFFORD of Thurlow, 29 Mar 1901, Thurlow
This is interesting as James gives name of his mother as Nancy GIBBS not Brock, was his father Albert married twice? first time to Mary Dorcas Brock, and second to Nancy Gibbs? if so, was Nancy the mother of some of Albert's Mounteney children?
Note that James Mountney/Mounteney states he was born at Amherst Island, (does anyone have access to Amherst Island records/census info, etc. for Mounteney families there?) he is a Widower, his bride is Susan Parks/ the widow Gifford, who was born at Madoc, d/of James Parks & Matilda Cole.
Can someone please identify these next Mounteney people for me please, they are the ones I had mentioned in an earlier post as being in Barrie Township, Frontenac County, Ontario same time as some of my early family (my Hawley's & Perry's):
Taken from the publication: "Five Townships Census 1861-1871 (Canonto, Barrie, Clarendon, Palmerston & Miller)", transcribed by Robert A. Little for the Kingston Branch OGS in 1986.......
For Barrie & Clarendown-
Mountenay, Gilbert Farmer born Upper Canada Wesleyan Meth. Age 28 Married
Mountenay, Sarah Born United States Age23 Married
Mountenay, Parley (male) Born Upper Can. Age 5
Mountenay, Alfred " " 2
Next comes a Rogers family and I am sure they are connected somehow....
Rogers, James Blacksmith Born in Upper Canada E. Meth. Age 45 Married
Rogers, Clarinda Age 38 Married (what was her maiden name?)
Rogers, Mary, age 12; Marthy age 8; George age 3.
Mountenay, John Farmer Born United States W. Meth. Age 42 Married
Mountenay, Mary Age 24 Married
These families do not appear in this transcription for the 1871 census for same place.
Could "Gilbert" have been an "Albert"?
The two men are not father and son, were they brothers or cousins? John was born about 1819, Gilbert about 1833. Was 24 year old Mary wife of John, his second wife?
Was the Rogers family related? Does anyone know the maiden name of Clarinda wife of James Rogers?
I see the name in other people's posts for a Thomas Parliament Mounteney...could the name here "Parley" be a nickname for (Parliament)? "Parley" born about 1856, brother Alfred about 1859, but I also have another son in this family, will type in a minute....Is the Mounteney family related to the Parliament family?
Third son that I have for Gilbert and Sarah Mounteney is David Edgar born about 1863 in Barrie, Ontario, living at Denbigh, married on Aug. 19, 1896 at Denbigh, Ontario to Susannah McDonald, age 33, born at Matawatchan, living at Denbigh, daughter of William & Susannah McDonald- both David and Susannah were single at time of marriage. Marriage information comes from publication: Lennox & Addington County (Ontario) Marriages Volume 3 (1891-1900) transcribed & indexed by Linda Corupe, U.E., and thanks as always Linda for your incomparable genealogical contributions....
Does anyone recognize these names and/or have any other clarifying information regarding James Mounteney's parents as per info above?
Thanks from Nora Keech McLean in Alberta, Canada
Researching Keech/Keach and associated families in Ontario & U.S.
James Keech Junior (1796-1864) from town of Western in NYS was married to Mary Mounteney (1795-1885), daughter of 1760 Joseph Mounteney and his wife Margaret Frank, (first info I received for Mary was that her surname was "Montana").
