Marilyn, good to hear from you. Your Samuel Parman was a spy for the CSA, in addition to having the rank of major. I have a story from Arlene Parman's book that I can share with you about his exploits.
Your Emmanuel was the oldest son of Giles Franklyn Parman, Sr. (1758-1832) My 4th great-grandfather, Frethias Parman (1797-1842), was the youngest son of Giles Sr. They came down from Northampton County, PA around 1792 to Greene County, TN. Davy Crockett was only 6 years-old and living in Greene County, TN also at that time. That should give you an idea of what a pioneer community the place was. Giles Sr's wife, Elizabeth Penn Parman, is believed to have died giving birth to my Frethias. Giles, Sr married a 2nd time to a widowed Woolsey. I can share much more if you are interested. God bless America, Dave.
