German is a possibility I had looked into also because of the area you find Giles in PA This is prime area for German's immigrating to America. But.....can't get past the lack of ANY German given names of children. Can't wait to get more info from you. It would be really nice to find another poor soul trying to find their heritage in the Parman clan.
