Parmans in Germany and/or England

Hi! My Grandfather, Wilbur Parman, born in Kansas around 1912, was also fair-skinned, red headed, and very tall. It is believed, but my immediate family never really researched it, that he came from a primarily British bloodline, but there also was talk of some German blood. We were always told that the name Parman originated from Pearman, England, in southern England, in the 1400's where they grew a lot of pears. Is there any truth to this?
