I have no idea who Nathaniel Pass' parents were or where they came from, but it seems clear from mutual associations that Richard Pass and Thomas Pass who were in Halifax County, VA at the same time as Nathaniel were his relatives.

1) William Irvy was a witness for the deed between William McGinnis (Jr) and Nathaniel Pass in 1764 and when William Irvy died ten years later Richard Pass and Thomas Pass were buyers at his estate sale.

2) Richard Pass was on the 1771 tax list for Halifax County and clearly was too old to have been Nathaniel's son.

3) Robert Wooding, whose land joined Nathaniel's and who was administrator for Nathaniel's probable father-in-law, William McGinnis (and was a co-defendant in that capacity with Nathaniel in 1762) was also a buyer at the William Irvy estate sale and he witnessed two deeds for Thomas Pass in 1777.

4) Thomas Pass, Thomas Pass Jr, and John Pass were on the 1782 tax list. Thomas Pass Jr is said to have been born in about 1756 thus his father, Thomas Pass, was probably about the same age as Nathaniel.

Thomas Pass was on the 1785 tax list. There were no Passes on the 1790 tax list.

Two bits of information which may be helpful to some future researcher are 1) Thomas Pass' wife in 1781 was named Lucy 2) Thomas Pass Jr married Elizabeth Owen, daughter of William Owen, in 1781 and 3) Susanna Pass, daughter of Thomas Pass, married Walker Fitts in 1782. 4) John Pass was bondsman for Thomas Pass Jr.
