Alton, I agree with everything you said. I have posted similar information on other boards, including McGinnis and Halifax Co., but I seem to have missed the Pass boards!

Alsey McGinnis Pass was one of my 5X-grandmothers. Her name is recorded exactly like this in family records. There is no evidence that she was a Holloway, except by assumption because of her first-born son's name.

However, we know nothing about her mother, nor much about the Pass family, and that name could have come from either of those places or NONE of those places! I think it is proved by "preponderance of evidence" that she was a McGinnis.

There were 3 unnamed orphans in William McGinnis's will. I believe Alsey was one of them, that she was already married to Nathaniel when William died, and had already received her portion of the estate before he died. It is not unusual for children who had already received their portion to be unnamed in a will.

Thank you for posting this information and for posting about other Pass men extant during Nathaniel's lifetime.

Anne Burton Washburn
