John Pass
Posted by: James Guthrie (ID *****9647) Date: September 21, 2008 at 16:22:49
  of 292

In Deed Book 31, page 643, Halifax co., VA. dtd. 23 DEC 1823:

From John Pass and Polly, his wife, John Ray and Ony, his wife, Thomas Guthrie and Fanny, his wife, and Micajah Sneed and Elizabeth, his wife, heirs and legatees of John Henry Gravett, dec'd., to Irby Atkisson. For $494.05, 100 acres more or less, joining Stokes Creek, adjoining Clement Lipscomb, Sam'l Pate, John D. Adkisson, and George Cloughton. Witnesses: Phillip Howerton, Richard Wade Senr., John Adams, John Adkisson.

It is obvious that a John Pass was married to a Mary "Polly" Gravett in 1823 when this deed was
made in Halifax Co., Virginia. Sister Elizabeth Gravett Sneed was born ca. 1795, sister Frances "Fanny" Gravett Guthrie was born ca. 1797, and sister Ona "Ony" Gravett Ray was born ca. 1806. John and Polly Pass were NOT in the 1850 Halifax Co., VA. Census. Can a fellow researcher tell me their whereabouts in the 1850 Census?
