My family (Pastorick) is from Scranton, PA. My grandfather arrived there in the very early 1900's from Russia (Ukrania, I believe) and unfortunately experienced an Ellis Island name change. It was apparently quite common for processors at EI to spell names as best they could. I don't want to be too critical because Granddad was probably not a lot of help in this matter due to his lack of famaliarity with the English language. Grandpa was a coal minor in Scranton and raised 9 children, several of which fought in WWII with 1 fatality. I would be happy to ask my Dad, currently living in Florida, to add more information.
