This seems to be quite an unusual surname and I'm having some trouble with it. My Great Great Grandfather, Anton Patek was born in Germany in around 1865 and married Bertha Woellner in 1887 in Germany. Somewhere between getting married and Annie being born at the end of 1888 they came to Australia Settling in Sydney, Australia. They had two more children Charles born 1890 and Oscar born 1892. Unfortunately Oscar died in 1896. It was shortly after this that Anton and Bertha disappear. Annie and Charles grew up in foster homes. There is no evidence of Anton and Bertha dying, becoming naturalised or going back to Germany. It is difficult because they may have changed their surname and Anton may have changed to Anthony. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Also if you are researching the name Patek I would also be interested as it does seem so different.
