Maybe I am little late on this one. But here goes. My dad recently gave be a brief history of where patels came from. I was curious to learn more and decided to do some research when I came upon this websight. I don't think you should keep your last name patel for the sake of caste calssifications. I do think your name has been, is, and will be used to signify where you came from your rich history. No matter how ordinary or how many people may share this history history gives you a sense of perspective. Who know maybe a child down the road in your family will wonder where they came from. What will they think when if they can in fact at least find out that last names had been changed? This is not about your views on how to live you life and which tenants of your culture you choose to follow. This is not about a respect no matter if it be great or not of where you came from. Because in fact, you came to be and a name signifies how you came to be. Appreciate that and be who you want to be regradless of where you came from. Just appreciate it. One vote for keeping your name.
