My great grandfather was Elzear Patenaude. His mother was Angelique Castagne from the bay of St. Paul and Acadia and his father was from Napierville Quebec, Verchers, Chambley, etc.. He attempted to hide his identity when he came to the States, so at 14 he could join the service.

Are you able to trace the Patenaudes to a metis (Cree) origin? I am possibly metis (Micmac) but cannot pin it down.
