I seem have found this site a bit late judging by the dates of some of the postings. Hopefully I can give some useful information about the Patience's from Avoch.
I was born in Avoch 1963. Both my grandfathers were fishermen.
The village of Avoch (the "a" and "v" are silent)is 10 miles from Inverness. Across the bay (the Beauly Firth) you can see village of Petty, so the Patiences from Avoch & Petty probably come from the same line.
The village allegedly dates back to before the 1300's. The ruins of Ormonde Castle lie a mile oustide Avoch. The castle belonged to Andrew De Moray, who was William Wallace's First Lieutentant.
Patience is the most common name in Avoch. I've heard it said that the Avoch Patiences were originally from France.
Let me know if I can help with any other info.
