My maternal gggrandfather was Donald PATIENCE b: Abt. 20 Feb 1822/21 Avoch, Ross-shire, Scotland who came with his young family to Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada in about May 1848.
I posted more about my PATIENCE ancestors on the Ancestry.com and RootsWeb.com PATIENCE Message Board (MB) back on 19 Nov 2003 as follows:

I am searching for more information about some of my ancestors (gggggrandparents): Joseph "Gow" Macintosh or MacIntosh from Seatown, Scotland and his daughter Mary (Elizabeth) MacIntosh who married John Patience (nicknamed Lad), a "fisher" on 29 Oct 1818 in Seatown, Scotland.
Where is Seatown, Scotland located on a map?
One of John Patience and Mary Elizabeth MacIntosh sons was my (gggrandfather) Donald Patience (b: abt. 20 Feb 1822/21 Avoch, Scotland c: 23 Feb 1822 m: 28 Feb 1845 Avoch, Scotland d: 12 April 1913 Ingersoll, Oxford Cty, Ontario, Canada) and his wife was Catharine Reid More (records variously spelled her name Catharine, Katherine or Catherine).
Born on 13 May, 1821 in Avoch and the daughter of John More (Junior), a wright (carpenter) in Milnhill, and Katherine (Reid) More, she was the third of 7 children.
Donald Patience and Catharine Reid More's children were as follows:
John Patience (1846 - 1930) b: Avoch, Scotland He was my ggrandfather.

Colin Reid (CR) Patience (1859 - 1932) b: Thamesford, Ontario, Canada
Christine Patience-Snell (1866 - 1897) b: Thamesford, Ontario, Canada
Catharine Reid's mother Katherine Reid was christened on 10 September, 1789, the daughter of Colin Reid, a carpenter in Milnhill and her mother Christian Reid (meaning redhead).
She married John More (b: 1800 d: 1879) on 19 October, 1816 in Avoch, Scotland.
She died 6 Jul 1849 near Thamesford, Ontario, Canada and was buried there in St. Andrews (Church) Cemetery with her husband John More and their oldest daughter Christian (Christie) b: 26 Jan 1817 c: 6 Feb 1817 d: 6 Dec 1874.
The children of Colin Reid and Christian Reid are as follows:

James Reid c: 21 Jul 1798
Colin Reid c: 21 Apr 1804

Later in about May 1848 Donald and Catharine Reid More with 2 small chidren and her parents (John More & Katherine Reid) left Avoch, Scotland and sailed to Canada
and settled together near Embro and Thamesford (formerly named St. Andrews), Oxford County, Ontario.
Does anybody out there know anything about the Family History of the MacIntosh, More, Patience and Reid families from the Milnhill or Millhill, Caithness; Sutherland; Avoch, Ross and Cromarty; Inverness areas of Scotland and Seatown, Scotland?
Derek, thank you for sharing your knowledge about the village of AVOCH with us here and I was wondering if your PATIENCE family might be related to mine as mentioned above since my Donald PATIENCE probably had some siblings as well ??
Here is a link to a passage written by James Patience about the PATIENCE families of Avoch that I thought that you might find as interesting as I did.
