Hi Alex,

How are you? I have been slowly working towards gaining more information on the Patience of Avoch.

Whilst i have done considerable research myself, I am still looking for the parents of a John (Padlock) Patience (who married Margaret Jack in 1842 in Inverness). You had told me that his parents were Ann and George Patience and his birth about 1815. However I have looked on Scotspeople webpage and have not been able to confirm it for myself in the pre 1855 births.

Margaret Jack was my maternal great great grandmother. Margaret Jack's parents were I believe Lewis Jack and Ann Patience who were married in 1811. Margaret and John Patience had 7 children: George (b.1843), Lewis (1845), John (1847), John (1851), Ann (1854), David (1858) and Margaret (1860). Apparentlly my greatgrandmother, Ann married her first cousin (heresay) David in 1888 in Pyrmont, Sydney, New South Wales. I have a photo of David, Ann and John together - probably the wedding day. Ann I believe gave birth to a son called John in Avoch in 1861 (illegitimate). David is not mentioned on his b/cert, but he is named as his father on John's death certificate in 1940.

I have been also trying to establish a relationship between Ann and David as cousins.
Ann died in 1905 and then Annie went into service in Port Macquarie. I am not sure what happened to the two younger siblings, Margaret and Donald.

My great grandmother Ann Patience and David Patience were married in 1881 at the home of David's first cousin Margaret Patience McLeman and Donald McLeman. Fortunately I have been able to establish that Margaret's mother Isabella Patience was sister to David's father,Alexander b.1824 and m.1848 to Ann Patience (Isabella P and Alexander P's parents were: Donald Janet McDonald m.1796).

So in brief, I am looking for 1. parents of John Patience b. 1815 (Inverness)
2. Ann's relationship to David prior to marriage.

I note there was another brother to Isabella Patience and Donald Patience (whose fater was James Patience) - and his name was John (born 1814) Could this John be the one that married Margaret Jack?

Any light thrown on this would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Edwina (Patience) Levack
