Dear Michael,
I just ;came back from Montreal. All I have been able to find out so far is that George was a Sgt in Montreal. At McGill library I found a letter from William (my line) written from Dundee. It sounds like he was there on some family business.
George may be his father but I am still not positive. There is a Catherine Duncan Patton buried at the Mount Royal cemetary in the Paton plot and I think that this is George's wife.
I found a George Paton married to Catherine Duncan on the 14 Jan 1816 in Dundee, Angus, Sct.
The only way I am going to find out for sure is if I can get his military records from England.I haven't been able to wade through that mess yet.I think one would have to take a course first!
I will say that there are pieces of the puzzle that are finally coming together though.
If this is the right ancestor they were both born around 1787-88 in Dundee or Isle of Bute.
Hope this helps you a little. We may be looking for two different people though.
Gail
