Trying to locate the White Family that adopted Mary Patrick

I'm trying to figure out, the family that adopted "Mary Patrick", after her Cherokee Indian Parents died in 1880.

Joshua Winchester Garrett's (1844-1925) second wife "Pollie Sue Garrett" (1868-1942) was given her name by Joshua. She was a Full Blooded Cherokee Indian; she had taken a white man's name of "Mary Patrick". Her parents never took a white man's name, they kept their Cherokee names. Joshua changed Mary's name to "Pollie Sue Garrett" when they married. He called her "Pollie", as he did his first wife.

Mary Patrick's parents and grandparents escaped from the "Trail of Tears" as they were on the route. They were members of the "Paint" clan. They hid out in an area Southwest of McMinnville, Tennessee. They later went along with many other Cherokee to the area of Putnam, Overton, and Clay counties. Many Cherokee knew of this area because of "The Standing Stone" at Monterey, Tennessee.

Her (Mary Patrick's) died when Mary was twelve; she was taken in by a White family in Clay County and raised by them. She took the name "Mary Patrick", and married Joshua Winchester Garrett, in 1888.

Mary Patrick, aka Pollie Sue Garrett, told both my Paternal Grandmother, and Paternal Uncle, about this, so I'm taking it as the "truth" or (factual).

So, I'm trying to locate the "White Family", that adopted her. Some say, their surname was "Kirkpatrick" (and she only claimed 1/2 their surname), others say, it really was "Patrick".

Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, for your time, consideration, and cooperation.
