Hi Ray

Just happened to come across your message. I am from the UK and was born in Merriott in 1934. When I was young there were several Pattemore families in the village and there still are. Also in the Crewkerne area generally.

I can confirm the village was known as 'Little Ireland', at least according to my late father, but I also have an old book 'Somerset Life anbd Character' which mentions this. In days gone by the men of the village were tough characters, always game for a punch-up with any passing stranger! Their speech and dialect was very distinctive. Some surnames, including Pattemore, appear to have been very localised.

Best wishes.
