Need Help with abbreviation - (place of birth)!
Posted by: Dianne Date: January 10, 2002 at 20:52:26

Can anyone help me with this one?

I recently obtained courthouse records about my great-ancestor, James Patten. I cannot decipher the "Place of Birth". It may be an acronym or abbreviation. In cursive handwriting, the letters appear to be "Map" or "Mfp" or "Mfs". (There may be another letter between the a/f and the p/s.)

Any help would be much appreciated.
