Hello Bruce,
There is a John Patten who might be the one you are interested in. John Patten is mentioned in a bible of Joseph Patten(1781-1858), grandson of Capt. Samuel Patten of Bedford, NH. John would be the great-grandfather.
John Patten came to America, according to this Bible listing, in 1728, with his wife Mary(Gammel or Gamble) and sons Matthew and Samuel and settled in what is now Bedford, NH. Samuel was born in Ireland and married Mary Bell in 1746. He died on April 23, 1792.
Matthew Patten is rather well known because of his diary entries and information is usually available at any library.
John died in April 1746 at 75 years of age or thereabouts.
Mary died in Bedford on October 1, 1764 at 81.
