I have several Williams and Johns but none that match your dates. The Pattens seem to have been pretty prolific, however, so yours may have been cousins to mine.

My Pattens lived in Hancock and Shelby Counties near Indianapolis. Family history says that William Patten was born in 1754 in County Monaghan, Ireland, and came to the new world as a young man with his brothers, John and Joshua, settling first in Georgia. William married Rachel Brown in 1777, probably in or near the Quaker settlement of Wrightboro, Georgia, and they had nine children Isaac (1778), Mary (1781), Ann (1782), Grace (1784), Mahlon (1787), William Jr. (1790), Rachel (1793), John (1796), and Sarah (1799). Around 1800 they moved to Barnesville, Belmont County, OH, where Rachel was buried in the Stillwater Friends Burying Ground in 1811.

My descendency goes through John (1796) who married Rebecca Stubbs in 1816. They had ten children of their own including William L. Patten, born in 1827 in Morgan County, Ohio, and died in 1903 in Shelby County, Indiana. It seems that John and Rebecca's children were the ones that abandoned Ohio as several ended up in Henry Co, Indiana, William L. in Shelby County, a daughter Rhoda in Iowa, and one son, Joseph, went as far as eastern Colorado.

Id be delighted to share information with you. Email me directly at DryHeatDan@msn.com.

Good hunting!
