A biography/family history of Truman M. Patten, civil engineer, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 1023. Truman was born, 11 May 1861, son of Capt. William Patten and Emeline Curtis (daughter of Ebenezer and Sarah (Dingley) Curtis.) Children of Captain Patten and Emeline; Florence (Mrs. Edgar Shaw, ME); Truman M.; Edmund P. (Bangor, ME).
Truman grew up on his father's farm and studied engineering at the Univ. of Maine, graduating in June, 1883. He went west to work on railways in MN and MI. In 1890 his headquarters were in Sioux Falls, SD. From there he moved to Glasgow, MT, in 1896, where he did land surveying, irrigation & reservoir work. In 1904 and 1906 he was elected Member of the House in the Ninth and Tenth General Assemblies of Montana. In Jun 1907, Truman was selected for the office of register of the Glasgow Land Office. Leaving office in 1913, he resumed his profession and in 1914 was elected Valley county treasurer until March 1919.
On 22 Mar 1893, Newport, ME, Truman married Miss Mary E. Whitney, daughter of John F. and Victoria (Piper) Whitney. Truman and Mary Patten son: Wendell W.
