Douglas,

According to Westmoreland history online, which has much detail on him, John Patten came from Ireland, where he was born (not b. Stoughton). He settled in Morton, MA as a farmer and nail-maker; married Abigail Makepeace (of William Makepeace/Experience Aldrich).
The marriage is recorded in the Norton VR [NVR] as 5 Feb 1755 (p. 291 NVR). He died 28 Dec 1803 (p. 389 NVR)and she died 2 Jun 1795 (p. 388 NVR]. [Town Record has June 2, 1794 but gravestone record has date as "June 2, 1795, in 63d y." Year as 1795 fits age if in her 63rd year] Eight children b. in Norton (by NVR) and one son (John, b. 10/4/1755) settled in Westmoreland, NH.

Paul Cobb
