Dear Mr. Ostrihansky, My great-grandfather Johan Frederick. Patzer was born in Obodowo, Flatow, Germany [near Koenigsburg] [East Prussia] on 1 April 1843. I had understood that most of the records from East Prussia, had been destroyed, but when I saw your postings I thought I should check. His father was Johan Patzer, born about October 1773. Johan Frederick wrote in his curriculum vitae that his father was in the army 18 years, and was a sergeant in the artillery in the campaigns of 1806/1807. He wrote that after the Peace of Tilset in 1809 [was actually 1807—Napoleon’s wars against the Kaiser] his father became a schoolteacher in Obodowo. [Must have joined the army about 1789]. He died 13 July 1856, at 82, leaving his family without means. I believe there were two children younger than Johan Frederick. Johan Frederick taught school for awhile, and then came to Wausau, WI, on 28th June 1866. Johan Frederick’s mother was Louisa Zielke, born 17 June 1818, in Prussia. Her parents were Andreas Zielke and Elizabeth Schwarz [Schwanz?]. After Johan Frederick came to the U.S. his mother later joined him, remarried, and died 20 November 1876, in Wausau, Marathon Co., WI. Since Johan was much senior to his wife, I assume that Johan probably had a previous family. Any information you could give me about tracing these lines would be most appreciated. Best regards, Ann Powers Notify Administrator about this message?
