Paulet/Polley connection?
Posted by: Barbara Date: November 25, 2001 at 14:22:51

According to family lore, one (or more) of my Polley ancestors believed that the Polleys were of French origin and changed his name to (this is a phonetic spelling - no one has seen this name written down) Pollay or LaPollay.

I have been trying to track down this individual and the source of this tradition. It occurred to me that Paulet might be the name that my Polleys derived their name from.

I have traced the family back to the early 1800's in NY, but there is a tradition of ancestors serving in the Rev War, so I'm sure they were in America at least by the mid-1700's.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I appreciate any comments.
