Regarding Joseph S. Poland
Posted by: Cynthia Douglas (ID *****2324) Date: September 01, 2007 at 16:48:10

I am 100% certain of the following (I have copies of Peter and Julia's birth certificates and Joseph's death certificate, listing his parents and brother):

1. Cynthia Robin LaPlante (me)
2. Diane Poland (my mother)
3. Peter Antoine Raymond Poland (her father)
4a. Joseph S. Poland (his father) - born 13-Oct-1859 Coopersville, Clinton County, New York, USA, died 14-Feb-1905. Married (sometime between Aug 1900 and 1901) to
4b. Julia Isabel Berthiaume (Peter's mother) - born 15-Dec-1872 Redford, Town of Saranac,Clinton County, New York, USA, died about 1960 in Lynn, Massachusetts, USA
(Their other children: Julia Cornelia Adeline, aka Kitty, 10-Feb-1903 Fitchburg, Worcester County, Massachussets to 17-Nov-1994 Worcestor County, married to a John Madden about 1930; Margaret, abt 1902 maybe Fitchburg, married to someone named Leo)
5a. Solomon J. Poland (Joseph's father) - born 8-Mar-1819 Coopersville, Clinton County, New York, died 4-Apr-1867 Coopersville, Clinton County, New York. He married, somewhere between 1839-1844, probably in Coopersville:
5b. Edwidge Dumas (Joseph's mother, listed as Edvidge Dumas on his headstone) - born about 1823 Canada (based on census record), died 16 May 1903 Coopersville.
(Their other children, all probably born in Coopersville or Chazy: Emily, 1844; Rosalie, 1845; Peter, 1846; Antoine, 27-Dec-1849 to 19-Jun-1936, married Celina Trombly on 5-Dec-1880 Coopersville; Solomon, Nov-1852; Mary Ann, 1854; Adelaline, 1856; Abraham/Abram, 5-Jul-1860 to 1918, married Alice Bocare/Beaucaire; Cornelia, 17-Feb-1863 to 1935, married Jacob Bocare/Beaucaire on 30-Jun-1891)

I am 99.99% certain of most of the following, based on documents provided by the Chazy, Clinton County, New York historian (who provided pictures as well as documents that confirmed things) and web searches:

5a. Pierre Paulin (Solomon's father) - born between 1786 - 1790 Coopersville, died 23-Aug-1856 Coopersville. He married, on 11-Jul-1808 in L'Acadie, Quebec Province, Canada (where his sibs all married):
5b. Catherine Fiset (or Fessette) - guestimate of birth between 1786 - 1792 Quebec, Canada.
(Their other children: Lawrence, 12-Jul-1822 Coopersville to 18-Feb-1895 Ceres, Oklahoma, married Clarisse Pagiz/Page; Mary; Julia; Bruno; Antoine; Julius)
6a. Antoine Paulin (Pierre's father, very well documented gentleman) - born 1737 France, died 7-Sep-1813 Coopersville. He married, on 12-Jan-1767 St-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, Quebec Province, Canada:
7b. Theotiste Cottard - born 20-Sep-1750 St. Anne-de-Beaupré, Montmorency County, Quebec Province, Canada, died 20-Sep-1841 Coopersville
(Their other children: Amable, 1768 Quebec, married Marie Josephte Scott on 27-Jul-1801 L'Acadie, Quebec Province, Canada; Marie Angelique, abt 1769 Quebec, married Etienne Dumas on 14-Oct-1805 in L'Acadie, Quebec Province, Canada; Theotiste, abt 1770 Quebec, married Pierre Bleau on 28-Jan-1799 L'Acadie; Genevieve, abt 1771 Quebec, married Bonaventure Godin on 18-Feb-1805 L'Acadie; Francoise, 28 apr 1783 Albany, New York, married John Peltier (Jean Baptiste Pelletier) on 11-Jul-1808) L'Acadie

What I'm looking for is confirmation that 5a is in fact 5b's son and that 5b is in fact 6a's son.

Also, any and all details about Catherine Fiset and her ancestors.

I think the parents of Edwidge Dumas (5b) are Joseph Dumas, born 1-Aug-1788 L'Acadie and Agathe D'Aragon, born about 1793 in Quebec. They were married on 6-Nov-1809 in St. Valentine Parish, L'acadie, St. Jean, Quebec. I would also like some verification of this (Edwidge's inclusion in that family).

Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated. I am (as always) willing to share information in my FTM database (currently over 10400 people).

A first cousin twice removed of mine, named Mabel Beaucaire (daugther of Cornelia Poland and Jacob Bocare), received a letter in January of 1960 (when I was about 8 months old) that seemed to confirm that her grandparents were Solomon J. Poland and Elvidge. I'd love to get in contact with her or her family.

Thank you,
Cynthia R. Douglas (ne LaPlante, direct line descendent of Clement Lerige sur de LaPlante)
