Hi, I am posting the notes that I have for some of my pioneer ancestors, in hopes that they may be of interest to some of you that are doing research on your ancestors. Enjoy, Janet

Descendants of Pierre Poulin/Paulin

Generation No. 1

       1. Pierre1 Poulin/Paulin was born about 1600 in Villebadin, Argentan, Normandie, France. He married Anne Ploumelle. She was born about 1600 in Villebadin, Argentan, Normandie, France.

Child of Pierre Poulin/Paulin and Anne Ploumelle is:
+       2       i.       Maurice2 Poulin, Sieur de la Fontaine, born about 1622 in Villebadin, Argentan, Normandie, France; died Bet. 09 Oct 1670 - 01 Mar 1674 in Trois Rivières, St. Maurice, QC.

Generation No. 2

       2. Maurice2 Poulin, Sieur de la Fontaine (Pierre1) was born about 1622 in Villebadin, Argentan, Normandie, France, and died Bet. 09 Oct 1670 - 01 Mar 1674 in Trois Rivières, St. Maurice, QC. He married Jeanne Jallot 09 Sep 1654 in Trois Rivières, St. Maurice, QC (ct 2 Dec, Ameau), daughter of Moise Jallot and Marie LaPointe. She was born about 1625 in Fontenay le Comte, Poitou, France, and died 27 May 1708 in Trois Rivières, St. Maurice, QC.

Notes for Maurice Poulin, Sieur de la Fontaine:
Maurice was born about 1622 in Villebadin (near Argentan), Normandie, the son of Pierre Poulin and Anne Ploumelle. (Anne Ploumelle was in Trois Rivières from 4 May 1655 to 28 Mar 1656.) Maurice is noted at Trois Rivières as early as 13 December 1649, when he served as godfather for a native girl. Maurice was appointed procureur fiscal at Trois Rivières on 12 September 1657, then procureur du roi at Trois Rivières on 17 November 1663. He served in this latter position (for which he was paid 150 livres per year) until his death, except for 1677. The 1666 census finds the family at Trois Rivières.
Maurice Poulin or Poulain dit or Sieur de Lafontaine died at Trois Rivières some time between 09 October 1670 (when he served as godfather for Maurice Cardin) and 01 March 1674.

Notes for Jeanne Jallot:
"Filles à Marier", page 179, Jeanne Jaleau dite Ploumelle was born about 1625 in Fontenay-le-Comte, Poitou, the daughter of MoIse Jaleau and Marie Lapointe. After her father's death, Jeanne came to New France in 1646 as the servant of Pierre Le Gardeur, Sieur de Repentigny, who at that time (1645-47) was director of embarkation for New France.
On 03 September 1647, Jeanne married Marin Terrier, Sieur de Repentigny et de Francheville at Québec City. She could not sign the marriage contract drawn up 17 October 1646 by notary Tronquet. It is not known if her husband could. Marin Terrier was noted as being in Trois Rivières on 13 Dec 1638. He was a soldier and was captured by the Iroquois at Trois Rivières on 19 Aug 1652.
On 09 September 1654, after Marin's death, Jeanne married Maurice Poulin or Poulain dit Sieur de Lafontaine in Trois Rivières. Her second second husband was able to sign the marriage contract drawn up 02 December by notary Ameau.
After her second husband Maurice Poulin died, Jeanne was granted the seigniory of Saint-Maurice, on 04 August 1676, for which Maurice had received permission to recruit settlers on 10 January 1668, but which was never officially granted. She deeded this property to her children on 19 January 1683. It was named after Maurice Poulin, and the name Saint-Maurice was later given to the river that flows past it. This river had previously been called Rivière des Trois Rivières or Métabéroutin. One of Maurice Poulin's grandsons, François Poulin de Franceville later established what later became the Saint-Maurice forges. The name Saint-Maurice was also subsequently applied to the county and surrounding region.
Jeanne Jaleau dite Ploumelle's mother-in-law Anne Ploumelle's last name seems to be the origin of Jeanne's nickname (dite name), perhaps arising from confusion between the names of Maurice's mother and his wife or perhaps due to some physical or behavioral similarity between the two women.
Jeanne was buried 27 May 1708 at Trois Rivières.
