Judy,

Thanks for all your help. Let me fill in a couple of things I found. In addition to the census records you cite (sorry I didn't include them in full -- the original post was written on a smartphone) Nebraskana (pub. 1932), a book of notable Nebraskans, has an entry for Anna and Samuel's son-in-law which includes:

" His marriage to Mabel Evelyn Paulson was solemnized at Genoa, Nebraska, April 17, 1900. Mrs. Stromberg, who was born in Geneva, Illinois, April 22, 1879, is descended from an old family of farmers in Skane, Sweden."

That's in line with your possible ID from Emibas as is the August 1850 birthdate and 1871 emigration that aligns with Samuel's 1900 census entry. Ditto for Anna (born Feb 1854 , emigrated 1870) Samuel died in 1943 and Anna in 1931 per cemetery records. I missed this initially as they were buried in a different county than they lived in.

I'm almost certain that Anna A in the 1880 census is an error. Every other Federal citation has G with A found only in 1880 and the transcription of the 1885 NE state census, and I've seen an image of the 1875 marriage record which is unambiguous as to the middle initials of both spouses.

Im hoping the other side of the family is easier to trace , as they didn't seem to use patronymics and Mabel's husband was (according to Who's who in Nebraska, 1940) "1934 decorated by King Gustav V of Sweden with royal order of Vasa" Also, Nebraskana has birth and death dates for Mabel's in-laws.
