Sorry Diane, no Josephs in my family. My great-grandfather, John Paulik of Sambron, Slovakia, did have a son, Peter born Nov 21,1876 and two sons named Stephen, one born Dec 13,1894 and another born Jan 10,1900. Presumably the first Stephen died between 1894 and 1900 which would account for them naming another son Stephen. But I think that this would all have been too late if your relatives were already in the U.S. in the 1890's.
