Jacques Payan (dit St-Onge will come later) was the son of François Payan from Ste-Colombe, diocèse de Saintes, SAINTONGE, France. Jacques arrived in Québec city in 1685 (approximate)and maried Marie-Louise Morin on Feb. 3, 1699 in Québec. He was a shoemaker as was his father. Marie-Louise died on Feb. 20,1710 having given birth to three children. On October 16, 1710 Jacques marries Marguerite Sédillot dit Montreuil. They will have 9 children. One of these is Joseph-Jacques (1700-1777) the eldest son was the first to write Payant with a "t", in 1722 he married Marie-Jeanne Legris dit Lépine. Joseph-Jacques is my ancestor.
