Hi Deirdre I don't know anything about the Payns, but I am descended from Andrew Jackson's sister Margaret. His death: JACKSON- On August 24, at his late residence, Bank-street, East Maitland, Andrew Jackson, late of Sandy Bay, in the 84th year of his age. -Hobart Mercury 25 Aug 1903. /Certificate from NSW BDMs: Died 23 Aug 1903. Grazier. Cause: Bronchitis and heart failure. Parents Peter Jackson and Mary Taylor. They were the children of Peter Jackson (who I know nothing about – he did not come to Australia so presume he died in UK) and Mary Taylor. Mary Taylor was born in Holtby England (near York) Christened 30 July 1798 and died in Hobart in 1863 (her will is on the Tasmanian Archives site). Mary went to Tasmania in 1855 on the Boomerang with daughter Margaret and her family and son George. Their sponsor was Andrew Jackson. Mary Taylor married Peter Jackson in 1815 at Holtby. Mary's parents were Thomas Taylor (abt 1769 – 18 Feb 1851) and Ann Precious (1773-1848). Their quite large headstone stands in the Holtby churchyard. Ann was the daughter of Joseph Precious (1742-1826 buried Warthill – next to Holtby) and Ann Agar (1748-1775 Warthill. Ann is the daughter of Thomas Agar (1701-1764) and Jane Scruton (abt1704-1779). Let me know if you want more! -Jo Notify Administrator about this message?
