Hi Andrea,

My gggrandfather James Peabody also married Mary Elizabeh Shipton in 1881. They had a son in December of 1882 named Alfred S. Peabody. It seems he went by the name Richard. He is probably your ancestor unless you are related to Cornelius Peabody, one of the other brothers from Maine. It seems Cornelius died in Highland Co. I know that my James lived in Marshall Twp. and is buried in Bainbridge. There was another Peabody there named John who was killed during the Civil War. He married Rachel Bish. I don't know how or if John is related to my family. It seems he was raised by others also. This John was born in 1836.

I hope your grandpa knows something about this. This has been the hardest branch of my family to trace. They moved around a lot. James Peabody was raised by the Redkey family and never left Ohio. My greatgrandma Kate Peabody married William Pensyl and lived in Ross Co. Her sister Susan Etta married Charles Kniseley. I know little about Richard's descendants. There is supposed to be a family Bible, according to a previous post, and the lady who wrote me referred to Susan Etta as "Aunt Et". I know she is related for sure.

I don't know how old your grandpa is, but do yourself a favor and find out everything he knows while he is still with you. My grandpa (mother's side) was a big help years ago and got me started on this never-ending search for my family. If I can help you in any way to find your family, please let me know. Just don't give up! The info is out there somewhere and a really good place to look besides the internet is the county courthouse. Highland Co. should have lots of records. Here are some other places to look:

www.rootsweb.com (free site)
www.cousinconnect.com (free for surname search)
www.familysearch.com (Latter Day Saints site, free site,
and has the 1880 census on-line)
www.usgenweb.com (free site)

Last, and one of my favorites, is any forum like genealogy.com. You may wait awhile for a reply, like me, but then there is the one person out there that may just put it all together. Besides, you get to find new cousins, and by the way, I think I may be one of them.

Good Luck and keep in touch.

Lynn
