James S. Peacock of Virginia (b. 1820) & Louisiana
The 1850 US Census for East Feliciana, Louisiana, shows a household with James S. Peacock, 30, a physician born in Virginia, apparently married to Elizabeth W. Peacock, 30, born in Louisiana. There are two Peacock children, Lelah K. Peacock, 3, and Helen V. Peacock, 1. The household also includes three children surnamed Christmas, whose names were, Mary E. Christmas, 10; Charles Christmas, 8; and Clara R. Christmas, 6. In addition, there was a Daniel Hays, 26, born in New York, and described as an engineer (as best I can read it). All children were born in Louisiana.
The 1860 US census for Bolivar County, MS, shows a household headed by Elizabeth M. Peacock, 43, born in Louisiana, with two children surnamed Christmas and three surnamed Peacock. They are Charles Christmas, 17, Faffie R. Christmas, 15, Lelia K. Peacock, 13, Helena V. Peacock, 11, and Stanley H. Peacock, 7. All children were born in Louisiana except for Stanley H. Peacock, the youngest, who was born in Missisippi. This appears to be the same family as that recorded in the East Feliciana, LA, census of 1850, but with James S. Peacock now missing.
