Hi!Jennifer,
You didn't say where your grandfather was born or around what year, but you did mention NH.On the 1930 Census, I found a family on East Ridge Rd., Loudon, NH.The family was Victor C. Pearl, age 47, born in NH(parents born in NH and NH), and a farmer; Alice, age 38, and born in NH(parents born in NH and VT); Victor R., age 15, and born in NH; and Evalyn C., age 14, and born in NH.On the 1920 Census, I found what seems to be the same family in Pasadena, CA.It was listed as: Victor Pearl, age 36, born in NH(parents born in NH and NH), and a laborer; Alice, age 28 and born in NH(parents born in NH and VT); Raymond, age 5 and born in NH; and Carmelita, age 4 and born in NH.It looks like the children were called by their middle names, as you had mentioned for your grandfather.
If this seems to fit your family, go to www.familysearch.org.This is the Mormon Genealogical Site, and they have very good records.Under a search for Victor Pearl, you'll find the elder Victor and wife Alice with their pedigrees.
As you believe, there are still a few Pearls in the Loudon/Concord/Belmont area of NH.
Hope this is helpful,
Kathy(Pearl)McCloud
