Dear Helena,
I do not have a great deal of help to give you. I came across a Pearse family history prepared by a General George Godfrey Pearse in 1897 in the British Library in London. It contains an early family history of the Pearses of Plympton St Mary, South Devon, for the period 1530-1738.
His own family branch then went to Ireland and settled in Cork. Ultimately they moved to Dublin and then back to England. In the mid 1800's they had many members in the Indian Army and children were born there.
Since this turned out not to be connected with my own line I have not pursued the Plympton line past 1738.
My own family traces back to Hedddington in Wiltshire as early as 1590.
Best of luck.
