Sorry I can not help you regarding the house but perhaps can give you other information that may give you some leads -

I suggest you contact the Jefferson County Genealogical Society. They have a Web Site ; or write to them at P. O. Box 1131 Mt. Vernon, IL 62864 or contact them through the C. E. Brehm Library in Mt. Vernon. They are very helpful and willing to provide whatever information they have.

Dr. Hugh Peavler was a second cousin twice removed of mine. He was born in 1864 in either TN or IL, the son of Henry jackson Peavler and Ellen Hawkins. His father was also a Doctor.

He married (1.)Ida Evans in 1890 and divorced soon after, he married (2.)on 24 July 1893, Margaret McCullough, dau of James Lafayette McCullough and Susan Agnes Peavler (my great grandparents). Margaret was a sister to my grandmother Mary Elizabeth (McCullough) Carroll. Margaret born 1866 and died 1940. Hugh then married (3.) Margaret Justine Bruce, dau of Frank Bruce and Ida Florence McCullough (Ida was a sister to Margaret and Mary Elizabeth. I assume but can not confirm that the house was built early in the marriage of Hugh and Margaret.

I do not know where Ida is buried but the others are all in Oakwood Cemetery near the Carroll family plot.
