According to Geneaoliges of the Potter Families in American, Mary, aka Polly Potter, was the d/o Joel and Patty (Spencer) Potter. She was born 28 Mar 1798 and married David ca 1822. There is nothing in the book on his ancestry. Joel Potter is not descended from the RI Potters but from the New Haven lines.
Joel's parents, according to the book, are Israel and Mary (Dawson ) Potter. Joel as born in East Haven, CT on 10 Jan 1773.
Israel Potter was born 2 Feb 1738 in East Haven, CT to Enos and Hannah (Robison) or Sarah (Hemingway) Potter. Enos married both women apparently but it is not known which one he married at what time.
Enos was the son of John and Elizabeth (Holt) Potter, born at East Haven on 12 Dec 1706.
John was the son of John Potter, Jr and Hannah (Cooper) and was born 4 Aug 1667 at East Haven. He married Elizabeth Holt, d/o John and Elizabeth (Thomas) Holt on 23 Feb 1691/92. He died on 12 Mar 1712.
John Potter, Jr was the son of the immigrant John Potter and his wife Elizabeth (--). He was baptized at New Haven on 17 Oct 1641 and married to Hannah Cooper in 1661. Hannah was the d/o John Cooper of East Haven.
The immigrant John Potter was born ca 1607 in England.
The Potter genealogies is infamous for its inconsistencies and errors so be sure to double check the info with other sources if you can.
Good luck, Donna Potter in RI
