Charles:

I am researching my daughter's paternal line which goes back to Robert William Peckham b: 1818 NYC, bapt 1825 in Taunton, MA, parents: Robert PECKHAM and Charlotte SHAW. The line is:

Robert William Peckham b: 31 Aug 1818 m: Charlotte Mendenhall
Robert Peckham b: 07 Nov 1789 m: Charlotte Lavinnia SHAW
Robert Peckham b: 16 Jan 1743 m: Mary Fales (wid Ingraham)
John Peckham b: 11 Feb 1714 m2: Tabitha Howland (wid. Cary)
Philip Peckham b: 8 Oct 1680 m: Jane Blackwell
Thomas Peckham b: c 1655 m2: Hannah Weeden
John Peckham b: 8 Apr 1595 m: Eleanor Weaver and Mary Clarke

my problem comes in as Robert William Peckham was orphaned young and was apprenticed to a John Morris, the surname he assumed before 1840. I can not find any proof of this name change but the baptism records in Taunton, MA, etc. show the connection but not enough for the Mayflower Society or NSDAR. I am hoping I can find a 'living Peckham male' who would consider taking a genealogy Y-chromsome DNA test (Q-tip rubbed on inside of the mouth)that I can match against a descendant of Robert William Peckham Morris. BTW, he was known as Dr. Rob Morris, founder of the Eastern Star Masonic Organization.
