From a pension application filed 14 March 1871, “War of 1812, Declaration of a Widow for Pension”; claim #482
Elizabeth Peckham, widow of Caleb E. Peckham
At the time of the application Elizabeth was living in Columbus, Franklin Co, OH on 6th St between Rich & Friend; age 87
Caleb served in Capt James Cochran’s Co DC Mil.
Warrant for 40 acres, warrant #80.025 issued 8 Jan 1853
He was in the Battle of Bladensburg and at Washington when it was taken by the British
Elizabeth’s maiden name: Elizabeth Tripp, married to Caleb 19 December 1808 at Newport, RI
Caleb died at Alexandria, VA 15 Oct 1819 (Elizabeth said Sept 1819)
William H Peckham said Caleb died 23 Sept 1819 at Alexandria
Signed by Elizabeth with an X, so she apparently was illiterate
Her lawyers name was John G Donen
Also appearing: Thomas F Jones and William H Peckham, residing at 214 East Friend, Columbus, OH and at 215 South 6th, Columbus, OH
Caleb served 19 Aug to 8 Oct (less than 60 days, so the application was denied)
From the 1850 census, 4th Ward, Columbus, OH

Sarah A Peckham 36 bn MD
Richard M Peckham age 37 bn DC
Malvina Peckham age 24 bn NY
Thos. T Jones age 42 bn VA
Martha Jones age 41
Elizabeth Peckham age 66
I believe that Wm H Peckham, above is the same William H Peckham who attested in the pension application and that he is the son of Elizabeth & Caleb
I believe that the Thos T Jones above is the same Thomas F Jones who attested in the pension app. I believe his wife Martha is the dtr of Elizabeth & Caleb.
William m Sarah Retallick. Their dtr Maryann Peckham m James A Holmes. James & Maryann’s dtr Laura Grace Holmes was my g-g-grandmother.
