Pedell family in Ireland (Ulster) ca 1750

A letter dated May 24, 1880, from Susan Eliza Davis Hamlett to a Mr. Elliot of Nashville was found in the files of the Tennessee Historical Society in the State Library, Nashville and published in the Crockett Co. News on May 6, 1976 in an article by Helen Conyers.

Mrs. Hamlett was quoted "I will now give you a short sketch on my great grandmother's side. Her maiden name was Pedell. She was Irish. She married James Thompson. He was Irish also and came to this country and went in the fort [Nashborough, now Nashville TN]"

James Thompson and his family emigrated from Ireland, probably Antrim, between 1754 and 1763. His wife was Elizabeth Pedell (according to Mrs. Hamlett). His children were Alexander, Catherine, John and Alice.

Does anyone know about this surname?

Roy Newsom
Nashville TN
