Paden and Peden is the same name. It was origionally pronounced "Peeden" in Scotland but in early Ireland it was pronounced "Paaden". THe early emigration of Peden from Ireland mostly pronounced it "Paaden". Some spelled it Peden others Paden but its still the same surname. You will find both pronuciations and spellings today. Mine is spelled Peden and pronounced "Peeden" You might refer to this post http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/PEDEN/1999-02/0920266308 it may help shed a little more light.
