I am a descendant of Alexander Peden Morton through his daughter Martha Elizabeth Morton. I have a copy of her death certificate listing "Payton Morton" as her father so that much is substantiated. Other documents show his name as Alex P Morton but my relatives most often used the "middle" name when talking about family.

My question concerns your response of John's and Alexander Peden's parents. If Alexander Peden Morton is the son of William Peden and Mary Stanford, how did he and his brother, John Morton, get the last name of Morton? Do you have verifiable information as to the parents of Alexander Peden Morton and John Morton?

Thanks for any clarification.
