Hi Carle, There is no confusion with Rev Alexander 'the Prophet'Peden/Pethein (b 1626) and Sir Alexander Pethein of Auchinlongford (b +- 1560). The Rev was the grandson of Sir Alex. My problem concerns Margaret Hamilton Peden(b 1565)who married Sir Alexander in 1685. Who were her parents? Some Peden sites claim she was the daughter of Sir James Hamilton
III (?) and Janet Beaton. Janet Beaton died in 1522 and she was married to James Hamilton, 1st EARL of Arran who died in 1529. Another site claims she was the brother of Partick 'the martyr' Hamilton. Yet he was born in 1505 and she in 1565! And his father, Sir Patrick of Hamilton of Kincavel, died in 1520!
Yet another claim is that she was the daughter of James Hamilton III(?) and Beatrix Drummond.Yet their daughter Margaret was born in 1505 and married Andrew Stewart.
This is the problem!!!
