William Pegg circa 1938

Hi! My maiden name is Pegg and I am stuck finding my paternal grandfather. His name is William Luther Pegg, married to Myrtle Melissa Silbaugh. They lived in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Sometime before 1938 William left the area. I have a copy of a letter he wrote in July, 1938 from Stockton, CA stating if he didn't here from Myrtle within a couple of weeks, he would be heading to Russia. The address was in care of D. F. Brooks, General Delivery, Stockton, CA.
That is where the mystery begins. We have no clue as to his life after that.
Any help would be great...info on William or ways to search.
Thanks in advance
Ruth
